Why this app?
Firstly, it’s possible to change folder icons in Windows natively. But it’s a tedious process to change hundreds of folder icons. Secondly, many other apps in this niche are either just too expensive or require a subscription; or just lack in some way or another.
Windows 11 Folder Color Changer was the first to introduce hotkeys, custom positioning and resizing controls for overlay icons, a context menu entry on the new Windows 11 folder context menu in Windows Explorer, and concurrent licensing for up to 5 computers. Windows 11 Folder Color Changer was also the first to support network folders and standard and full size inset images with or without a mask.
To get started, run the app by clicking its Start menu icon or double clicking its icon on the Desktop after installation. If you enable hotkeys, you can also open the app with ALT-Q (the app will also start up with Windows to ensure the hotkeys are ready).
You can also launch the app using the Windows 11 context menu (because of how Windows 11 deals with non-native context menu entries, especially in the case of WinForms apps, this option is slower than the other ways to launch the app). Hotkeys remain the quickest way to send folders straight to the app.
We offer several intuitive ways to use the app. See here.
